July 28-29, 2023 – David McGuff’s Yellow Lab Productions returns to the VK Garage Theater with another new and socially relevant play designed to feed a discerning audience’s hunger for thoughtful and moving drama.
On the outskirts of Mormon Country, Charlie, a 600-pound recluse, hides away in his apartment and slowly eats himself to death. Desperate to reconnect with his long-estranged daughter, he reaches out to her, only to find a viciously sharp-tongued and wildly unhappy teen. Whales don’t live in the shallows–so Charlie must discover to what depths he must go to wipe away the painful mistakes of a lifetime. Big-hearted and fiercely funny, The Whale tells the story of a man’s last chance at redemption, and of finding beauty in the most unexpected places.
