February 24, 2022 – The Symphony of the Hills presents the fourth concert in the 2021-22 season, Heart of the Strings, featuring the exhilarating voice and hidden beauty of a lesser-known string, the viola, on Thursday, February 24 at 7:30 p.m.
This concert features the exhilarating sound of the lesser-known string instrument, the viola. Curtis-trained San Antonio violist, Julian Tello, will perform York Bowen’s Viola Concerto in C Minor.
The concert opens with American composer Florence Price’s beautiful Concert Overture No. 2, containing music inspired by three Spirituals. Price was the first African-American woman to have an orchestral work played by a major American orchestra. This is followed by the energetic and beautiful Symphony No. 88 by Joseph Haydn, “Father of the Symphony.” This is truly a concert program of much beauty, hidden and otherwise.
