You are cordially invited to enjoy a few hours in rural Michigan when Playhouse 2000 presents the charming comedy One Christmas Eve at Evergreen Mall in December.
The play follows eight intertwined stories of everyday people navigating both their lives and the final shopping day before Christmas.
There’s the Mall Santa and his new assistant Elf, who’s getting over a holiday-season breakup; a pair of squabbling community theater actors about to step on stage for their version of “A Christmas Carol;” the college freshman trying to work through the changes that happened in her family while she was at school; a pair of nerds who have a unique solution to the disaster that has befallen their school project; and more.
Their stories range from wildly funny to sincere and even poignant. The result is a festive package that brings the true meaning of Christmas to its audience.
The cast includes Susan Balentine, Chris Burgess, Brad Gilbert, Athena Escelara, Phoebe Green, Kim Keller, Amanda Radkiewicz, Justin Radkiewicz, Jaden Rief, Jason Rittimann, Denise Ronk, Liz Sosa, Jeremy Sosa, Kinley Starr, Darcey Wagner, River Wellborn, Gavin Wienke, Rae Wienke, and Stephanie Bishop Wienke,
Uniquely, the play has four authors who collaborated long-distance during the Covid crisis. Playwrights Lynne Halliday, James Hindman, Arlene Hutton & Craig Pospisil each created scenes that combine to offer a funny and charmingly authentic collection that is sure to put smiles on faces this holiday season.
Similarly, the show has been led by four Directors, including two who are making their directorial debuts. Jesirae Kesler and Brad Gilbert have spent many hours in P2K productions, both on- and off-stage, and this show is their first opportunity the sit in the director’s chair.
They are joined by P2K’s newly-hired Director of Youth Programming Emily Olson and P2K Executive Director Jeffrey Brown to complete the quartet of leaders.
“One Christmas Eve at Evergreen Mall” will be presented in the VK Garage Theater from December 1 through 17. Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30, with Sunday Matinees on December 10 and 17 at 2:30. General Admission Tickets are $24, less for children and students.
