The HCYO mission is to “bring the joy of the orchestra experience to the youth of the Texas Hill Country” with the vision to nurture, encourage and assist young musicians by sharing the love and joy of music through quality instruction, concert performances, and community service. The core HCYO belief is unlimited and early exposure to music fosters lifelong recognition of its value and instills life skills, development of leadership, teamwork, responsibility, and discipline. In 1987 there was no string program in the Texas Hill Country. Today HCYO serves more than 150 students on 3 HCYO campuses in Kerrville, Fredericksburg and Boerne. Since its inception HCYO has trained and developed more than 2,000 students from its music education program. The unique quality of HCYO is it is a tuition free program. All costs for the programs are underwritten by grants, fundraising and private donations.
